Seated with Christ

Seated with Christ

On a Monday night during worship, my friend Richard came over to me and said “you are meant to be seated with Christ.” I felt the intentionality and timeliness of that word immediately. What does it mean to be seated with Christ in heavenly places?

As I prayed about it the Lord gave me a picture of a regal theatre. There were seats of varying significance because of the advantage the seer has when seated there. When we are seated with Christ, we are really seated in Christ. This means we see what’s going on from the exact same angle and depth perception as he does. With the shaking going on in our world it is absolutely pertinent that we see from a higher perspective.

I’m reminded that Paul warns us in 2 Corinthians 2:11 not to be unaware of the schemes of the enemy. He warns us again in Ephesians 6:12 that our battle is waged in the spirit realm. It is abundantly clear that the enemy has sought to steal the very breath of humanity during this season of sickness and racial tension. So what’s the hope? We are being positioned for the mighty breath of God to blow across the earth, restoring the breath stolen by sickness and injustice. Christ’s perspective from his seat... When Ezekial clothed himself with the perspective of God, the breath was released to dry bones and the slain were filled with hope. This required a process of Ezekial laying down his perception and choosing to respond “Sovereign Lord, you alone know” (Ezekial 37:3). When the mind of the Lord is set apart to the highest place in your heart, you will see from His perspective as Ezekial did. Let us not fall into the trap of clinging to our own perspective since “we have the mind of Christ” (1 Corinthians 2:16). Let us empty ourselves of our lofty thoughts and be seated with Christ.

I wrote a poem with the Lord years ago that speaks to the power of being seated with Christ...

I’m dressed like the flowers of the field

When my heart and mind agree to yield

I’m drenched in the power of Love’s pure waves

When all my resistance finally caves

I’m hidden in the shadow of the most high God

Whom I pray my heart will always laude

Even if famine comes my way

Your love will uphold me for you never sway

Though darkness comes to break down my door

Your light will shine forevermore

This I am sure of, this I proclaim

His face has the power to awaken the slain

He breathes on dry bones

It’s an army He sees

For nothing can stop those who believe
