Tumble Together
Tumble Together
Alright, I've got a sappy memory of my childhood, that I'm going to share in a relatively sappy manner, but the truth is still the truth, so stick with me!
When I was a kid, my older brother had a rock tumbler. I remember thinking how cool it was to see imperfect stones that had a glimpse of something that could be cool, but were pretty rough and ugly, tossed into an obnoxiously loud little barrel spinning in the garage, and days or weeks later, you see a drastic change to these stones. What was once rough now smooth, what was once dull now gleaming.
Proverbs 27:17 is a familiar passage to many believers, "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."
When I read that passage, I often think of my nostalgic memories of that rock tumbler. Circumstances cause us to wrestle with and navigate through the ups and downs of life alongside the people we walk with.
For Christians, those people are meant to be believers. We navigate the ups and downs together, encouraging each other (1Thess 5:11) stirring each other up toward good and right living (Heb 10:24) and helping us to live in the way of Christ.
We all go into seasons maybe a little rough in some areas, needing the reality of Christ in our lives to shine through more brightly. The people around us, help us to grow and become more like Christ has called us to be.
So the next time life has you tumbling along, (I'm almost done, don't bail yet) look at the stones tumbling beside you, and be thankful, they are helping you, and you are helping them to smooth out into something really cool and shiny.
Love you friends!
