The Greatest Friend of All
The Greatest Friend of All
Friendship! There truly is not anything better than a good friendship. I cherish the moments I get to spend with some of my closest friends. God has blessed me with some amazing people in my life that have helped me through thick and thin. Because of that, one of my core values is connection with those I do life with.
Now, have you ever had that one friend you could always talk to? The one who comforts and gives you the best advice? The one you can laugh and cry with? The one you could just sit with and not even say a word? I have and it is a gift from the Father. Or maybe you do not know a friend like this. Maybe you have found it hard to find someone who you can trust and open your life to. I have been there to and that is why I call it a gift. But what if I told you that you can have a friend that meets all your needs? A friend that is other worldly and will never let you down. His name would be Jesus. The best friend you will ever have.
This is what Holy spirit showed me last week and what prompted me to write this. You see I was going through something and I was busy trying to march on with my day. Distracting myself by doing the dishes so I did not have to think about the heart issue that was rolling through my mind. Suddenly I felt the pull of the Holy Spirit. I felt him say “stop running and come talk to me”. So, I stopped my busyness and went and sat down. I sat there and was still. I started to pour my heart out to him. As I was doing that, He gently reminded me that he was my friend. That he cared about what was bothering me and wanted to hear every detail. Wanted to comfort me and give me wisdom for the issue. Think about that. Jesus, the creator of heaven and earth wants to be and is my friend. He is your friend too!
After talking with him and bringing everything to him I was able to enjoy my day. He took care of my heart and guided me to peace. This got me thinking. How often do we not run to him first? I know I have called my closest friend before thinking to run to Jesus first. Now I am not saying going to your earthly friends is wrong. I am just saying that Jesus is our greatest friend with all the right answers and should be first in all things.
In John 15:15 it says “I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.” In the Passion Translation it says, “My most intimate friends”. I love that! He is our deepest most intimate friend and he so longs for us to let him be that. To call out his name and run to him.
Something he reminded me of also, was that he already knew what was bothering me. It did not take him by surprise. That was a comfort to me. To know he could be trusted and would never judge me for my weakness. That he saw my heart and longed to meet my need. What a friend! He is the intimate friend that knows me inside and out. He comforts me and corrects me. He enjoys life with me and holds the key to every question and need that will ever come up. He is my friend in the big things of life as well as the small. So, I encourage you this week to sit with him. To ask Jesus to be your best friend. He longs for that. To just be with you in connection with your heart. I promise you; he will not let you down. He can be trusted to be your most intimate friend.
