You Were Created to Fear

“I created you to fear nothing except one thing, and that is Me.” Standing in the back of the room in front of the sound booth, my friend shared with me what God had been speaking to him throughout the prayer set on Monday night. “I want your fears,” God said. “Here is My love; take it and give me your fears.” These words, the Lord spoke to and through my friend, impacted me deeply.

Fear of failure.

Fear of people’s opinions.

Fear of the enemy. Fear of rejection.

Fear of “missing it” or “missing out.”

Fear of stepping out in faith.

Fear of sharing the Gospel.

Fear of not being good enough…

The list could go on and on….and on….and on, couldn’t it? Well, if you do have some fears, what are they? Got ‘em in mind? Now hear Him say this over you as I heard it earlier today…

“Will you give me your fears? My love will cast out Your fears; fear Me alone.”

1 John 4:18 says,“There is no fear in love; but perfect love cast out fear…”

The fear of the Lord is a rare topic these days. Yet in all of our church going, schooling, bible studying and life experience, we so often forget that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of true wisdom and understanding. (Proverbs 9:10)

To fear God means that His name, His ways, His word, and His leading carry more weight in our lives than anyone or anything else. It is a respect given and a reverence that seeps into your very being. The fear of the Lord is an attribute that God is attracted to.. He actually really likes it. Take a look:

Psalm 33:18– “The eye of the Lord is on those whofearHim, on those who hope for His loving-kindness.”

Psalm 25:14– “The secret (or intimacy) of the Lord is for those who fearHim, and He will make known to them His covenant.”

Proverbs 14: 26-27– “In the fearof the Lord there is strong confidence… the fearof the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may avoid the snares of death.”

What an amazing offer… His love in exchange for our fears. As we receive His love, let us be a people who obey Him without fear of what it might cost. Let us take steps of faith without fear of what people might think. Let us destroy works of darkness without fear of attack. Let us share the Gospel without fear of not doing it good enough or messing up. Ask the Lord to show you personally what it looks like to revere Him above all else in your life. He’ll tell you.

“I created You to fear nothing except one thing, and that is Me.”

What freedom comes when we only fear the one thing we were created to fear.
