Starting the Year Off Right

New Year, new perspective, new start.

New Years resolutions have kind of gotten a bad wrap, probably in part because we don't always treat our New Years resolution with a great deal of care for more than a week or two. The idea of New Years resolutions are actually in fact, a really great thing! A new year to start a new habit you've been meaning to start, a new year to stop a bad habit you've been meaning to stop.

Leading into this year, I've been thinking a lot about habits, choices, patterns, and measures in my life. How much am I working, how much am I resting, how healthy am I eating? As I look at these things, no doubt I am finding things out of balance, out of focus, or just plain neglected. This is an amazing opportunity for me to make a change.

Romans 12:3 "For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned."

Sober judgement, we need to look at ourselves with sober judgement. That means considering where we are strong, and where we are weak. To celebrate where we are succeeding, and to consider and readjust where we are falling short.

I want to encourage you to do the same. This year, a few of the things I am looking at are, adjusting my rest and work schedule, scheduling times to rest and recharge; changing my eating and exercise habits; and finding more opportunities to slow down and have fun.

What should you be doing in this new year to change and grow? I encourage you to get started now, it's a great season to do it!
