Lay it Before God
One of my favorite stories is the Bible is about the Great King Hezekiah in 2 Kings. After King David it is hard to find a king that trusted in the Lord, but Hezekiah was different.
“Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses. And the Lord was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook…” 2 Kings 18:5-7
God blessed him because of his obedience and faith. Although there was not peace in the land Hezekiah still trusted the Lord in everything. When Hezekiah got news that the enemy had surrounded and sieged the city of Jerusalem, the Word tells us that the first thing he did was to go to the temple of the Lord. He was sent a letter from the enemy, a letter that was meant to intimate and scare him into surrender, but Hezekiah took that letter to the temple and laid it out before the Lord.
“Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord. And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord…” 2 Kings 19: 14,15
Hezekiah knew that only God was able to deliver them, and so he went directly to Him. I think that we can learn so much from the simple yet powerful act of Hezekiah. God did deliver King Hezekiah and the Israelites from the enemy, and He did it in a supernatural and mighty way! (Read 2 Kings 19)
What I learn from Hezekiah’s story is that I can and should go first to the Lord with anything that troubles me, with anything that comes against me, even if I go in fear I can leave in victory. I absolutely can count on and trust in God for all of my needs; all I have to do is lay it before Him.
What can you lay before God today?
