Tenacity
noun: tenacity
1. the quality or fact of being able to grip something firmly; grip.
This word, tenacity, has been spinning around in my head over the last few weeks. I’ve been doing a lot of self-refection lately, trying to be faithful in the next steps that God is laying out in my life. This idea of gripping something tightly, not being swayed, it’s a powerful idea. It has lots of applications: I want to be tenacious in chasing my goals, I want to show tenacity in hard times, I want to be a tenacious wife who fights for her marriage and family. All of these meanings come easily to me.
Last night, I was driving home from work and daydreaming about all the plans I’ve recently made, and the things God is speaking into my life lately. You see, I’ve been in this season for quite some time, it’s a season where God has been pressing into my heart a reminder of the things He’s spoken to me, and the dreams He’s placed in my heart. Maybe you can relate? There is this deep well of longing to see the things God said would happen, come to pass, it aches friends, and I can’t escape the sense that I absolutely MUST see it occur.
Do you have this ache? Maybe it’s a relationship you’ve been struggling in, but you just know God is working something out there. Or a dream, mission or call He gave you a million and 6 years ago, that you just can’t shake, you go about your day but in the back of your mind you just know, you were meant for something more. What about all the promises Jesus gave us? Where are the greater things Jesus promised we would do?
Tenacity.
I truly believe that God is calling us as a church, a people, and as individuals to be a people who TENACIOUSLY grip God’s promises. What would it look like if, instead of hoping God’s words are true, we gripped them and lived as if we knew this thing God said is happening! Yes! Even NOW, it’s in progress. There are no lost days in God’s kingdom, every day is leading you closer to the day of harvest!
Can I just encourage you friends; get a grip! Hold fast, cling to every drop of what God is speaking to your little heart and let it burn in you an ache and desire, then push through and run after it! Throw everything you have at it and pursue it like you’ve got one life to see it through. Because, in case you didn’t know, you have ONE life to see it happen! What if the only thing holding us back from seeing God’s mighty hand at work in and through our lives, is our unwillingness to run full speed at it?
