Practice What You Preach

Have you ever found yourself saying one thing and the next minute doing the opposite? For example, you say to yourself “from now on I’m going to eat healthy and use my free time more productively” and that evening after work you find yourself dishing a HUGE bowl of your favorite ice cream before sitting down to watch tv?

Or maybe you told yourself before bed “I’m going to start waking up early to pack a lunch for work instead of eating out, so that I can save some money” yet when your alarm goes off the next morning you hit snooze so many times that you don’t even have time to shower before work, let alone pack a lunch.

I can unfortunately, although honestly, say there has been many of these times in my life. I have desired something or at least thought I desired it, though my actions didn’t line up with what I professed.

This happens in many of our lives in a multitude of areas, though the area I have been thinking about the past few days is how this often happens in our walk of faith. Jesus quoting Isaiah says: “These people draw near to Me with their mouth and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” - Matthew 15:8 How about your life? Are there areas in your walk of faith where maybe you’re professing one thing but living another?

I know for me personally I have been feeling challenged in the area of living with eternity always before me. God has been challenging me to see people through His eyes, I would definitely say to you that when I look at people I know that they are eternal, and they will spend eternity with God in Heaven or separated from God in hell. So often I don’t live and interact with people as though this was true. I want to live with an urgency, with a heart and passion for the lost, though I want it to be so real that it effects the way I live moment by moment.

What are some areas in your life where God is stirring your heart to move from confession to a life lived? Ask God this week to search your heart and show you, and when He does, walk in obedience to what He calls you to!  Know that it’s not something you will do by your own strength, pray and ask God to lead you and fill you with His Holy Spirit that you might live in obedience the life He is calling you to!

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. - James 1:22 I’m excited to hear the stories of what God does in and through your life as you surrender to Him and become a doer of His word!
