Honest About What We See
Over the last week, there has been some really great growth opportunities in my life. That is the same as saying, I have found myself falling short in really obvious ways as of late.
If you’re anything like me, in those moments, it can be easy, or tempting to just move on. It’s no fun to think about or talk about areas we need to grow. It’s no fun to sit and think about areas where we fell short.
The problem is, if we just move on without giving it any thought, there is a real good chance we’ll find ourselves there again, and likely soon.
It’s a pretty profound thing, seeing something in ourselves we don’t want there, or that we don’t like. At times, it’s the result of a time we’ve been hurt; or because we’ve not been as disciplined or careful as we should be.
Let me give you some examples.
If you’ve worked with someone in leadership who treated you poorly, or abused their role in your life; and you never slow down to forgive, to process, to talk through the hurt; you find yourself bringing that into new leadership relationships.
If you’ve been a part of a church, and you experienced a split, or if there was poor or hurtful decisions made that affected you, and you never slow down to forgive, to process, to talk through the hurt; you find yourself bringing that into your new church.
We can’t stop the reality of hard things happening to us, but we can take the time to deal with things as they come. If we miss it, that’s okay, let’s just be honest about what we see in us, and when it’s something we don’t want there, let’s take it to Jesus, and find healing and forgiveness, so we can move on healthy and whole!
