The Hard Work of Doing Nothing

During seasons like this one, we often have a really wonderful opportunity. A chance to slow down, and do less. The difficulty for many of us is, we aren’t very good at this.

There can be a million reasons why that is true. Maybe it’s something pretty neutral or even positive, you have family, and work responsibilities; or it’s a new season of a job that you love. It can also be things that are a little more negative in nature, you struggle with feeling worthy so you work extra to make up for it; or you don’t feel confident in the scenario you are in so you don’t feel comfortable letting your guard down.

Whether our reason is positive, neutral or negative, not slowing down isn’t good for us.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations I will be exalted in the earth.”

Whether we are worshiping, walking through life, working, or serving in our church, there is need to work hard and do our best, no question… but there is also a tremendous need to slow down, be quiet and just trust that God is at work, because He is!

So as you find opportunity this week and next, choose to stop, choose to slow down, to let go, to do less. Be quiet and rest.

You’ll find God in that place, and you’ll be so glad you did!
