He Has Done It Once, He Will Do It Again
This Sunday, as a church we talked about some of the amazing things God has done through the lives of His people. All throughout the Old and New Testament, God did many amazing things through His people, but those amazing things didn't stop back then, God has continued to move through His people from the days of the New Testament up to today.
The trouble is, for many of us, we haven't seen or heard of anything outside old stories, or stories from long ago or far away.
In the early 1900s, there was a lot of discussion around the idea of the 4-minute-mile. Up to this point, the closest anyone ever came to a 4-minute-mile was 4:01. People tried, legend even says people would run with bulls chasing them to increase their motivation to run faster and still, the goal was not reached. Eventually, the world had decided, that to run a mile under 4 minutes was simply impossible. They determined that mankind had reached their limit, and it was simply a line that could not be crossed.
As I am sure you can assume by now is, someone proved that wrong. In 1954 Roger Bannister broke that record by running a mile in 3:59.4 and proved everyone wrong. This was an amazing accomplishment, but it's what happened after that I want to focus on today. Within 9 months, the 4 minute barrier was broken again. Within a matter of a few years, several people were breaking this record. If you fast forward to today, in order to be a competitive runner, you must run under a 4 minute mile.
So why does this matter to us today?
In Revelation 12:11 it says, "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony"
There are two powerful elements here that are highlighted. First, the blood of Jesus, the work He did on the cross. The second is the words of our testimony. Let me focus today on the second.
Testimony simply means, to say it again. Yet saying again what God has done, is one of the two key pieces in our victory. It is no wonder, why it is often overlooked.
This needs to change.
If we share what God has done in and through our lives, we are giving the people we share it with the chance to see the same in their life. As we listen and learn of God's goodness in others lives, we are positioned to see the same kind of victory in our own.
Let's tell again the work that we have seen God do, and let's take the time to listen to what God is doing in others lives. Even more importantly, let's let these stories build our faith to walk into even greater stories of God's great work. This avalanche of testimony and provision will cause us as the collective church to break barriers and see things happen, that perhaps some of us have decided simply cannot be done.
