Practicing Gratitude
Have you ever found yourself in a conversation where someone is talking about some hardships they are enduring, and you are overcome with empathy for them? Perhaps you even think to yourself how grateful you are for your blessings, or circumstances in contrast to theirs?
It's unfortunate that for some of us, the moments we are most aware of the good things in our life only become highlighted when we put them in comparison to someone's unfortunate plight, or when we lose something good that we had.
This shouldn't be so.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
God's desire is that we stay in a posture of gratitude, when almost everything is going right, and when almost everything is going wrong.
The truth is, even in our toughest moments, there is always something to be grateful for.
That's my challenge and encouragement to you this week, consider what God has done, consider what you have, and be grateful. Don't wait until you lose something, or see someone else's circumstance to give thanks. Give thanks now.
